ACTIVA CANARIAS, the Active Tourism Association in the Canary Islands, was founded in 2003. It gets together the main businesses in the sector and ensures the criteria of quality, sustainability and security in the services in order to give the users the best experience. 

We also represent and give consultancy to Active Tourism businesses as well as defend their mutual interests 

The sector of outdoor activities, active tourism and adventure sports is regulated and there exist rules for the businesses and promoters who offer this type of services.

Those promoters must ensure top-quality services, the customer care and especially the security in the activity by hiring highly qualified personnel, by using homologated equipment, by knowing the techniques to develop them and by getting the means and guarantees needed to solve possible incidents during the activity.

ACTIVA CANARIAS  guarantees that all businesses which are members of the association respect the legal requirements and the training and security norms, which will allow you to safely take part in all activities.

WHAT DO THE MEMBER BUSINESSES OFFER?

 

  • A total guarantee of security, top-quality service and the customer's satisfaction .
 
  • The registry number which allow them to offer Active Tourism services.
 
  • Techniques meant for the activities offered.
 
  • Elements of security: communication, emergencies protocoles, homologated and serviced equipment, kits and basic hints about first aid…
 
  • Planning and forecasting of the activity.
 
  • Reminding the customers auto-protection and security norms, before the activity starts .
 
  • Measures meant to protect the environment and respect the environmental norms.
 
  • Liability and accident or care insurances, which include rescue fees.
 
  • A claim form.
 
  • Without prejudice to the conditions and prohibitions established in the legal order for each activity, minors under 16 have to present a prental consent in order to take part in the active tourism activities.

 

 WHAT MAY HAPPEN IF I PRACTICE AN ACTIVITY THROUGH A PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL, AN ILLEGAL TRADEMARK OR THROUGH CLUBS OR ASSOCIATIONS WHICH OFFER SERVICES TO NON MEMBERS BUSINESSES?

 

  • Your personal security and the security of the people you love is not guaranteed

  • You won't have any medical cover in case of accident. You will not have first aid unless you pay up to 3000 euros (We remind you that first aid is no longer covered by the Canary Government ).

 

  • You won't be able to require civil responsibility to the business or person who organizes the activity in case they cause harm to you. You will not be covered in case of serious accident.

 

  • You will not be able to make any claim in front of an official organism if you are not satisfied the service offered.

 

  • You will not have professional guides, with recognized and guaranteed knowledge.

  • You will take part in an illegal activity, which probably doesn't respect the norms (professional, environmental, fiscal...)

 

  • If the instructor does not have contract, they do not pay social security contributions.

 

  • They do not make bills, without which you will not have legal guarantee in case of claim, and they do not pay the iGIC to the Canary Government. They do not declare their benefits to the Public Treasury. Consequently, the activity does not generate taxes, which are useful to the society.

  • Violation of environmental laws. For example, the number of persons allowed in a protect space.

 

Activa Canarias is striving to standardize the sector, to improve the activities quality and security and to contribute to eradicate the illegal offer.

FOR ALL THESE REASONS, WE RECOMMEND:

  • To users to make sure they are contacting accredited businesses (as the members of Activa Canarias) or to require information (official registry number, insurance...)

  • To private individuals, trademarks, clubas and associations which offer this type of services without complying with legislation, to regularize their situation. That's why we will offer legal consultancy and will provide the information needed for the regulation.​
